Cabinet Safety
3.1
General Safety Instructions
The spectrometer system user should check the equipment at regular intervals for any
damage or wear and inform service immediately of any abnormality.
Do no use the equipment and inform the service staff, if you are in doubt about the correct
state of any component!
In the unlikely case of one of the following, stop using the equipment, interrupt the current
supply, disclose this circumstance to the service staff and ask for instructions:
• The power cord, power plug or power supply are cracked, brittle or damaged.
• Signs of excessive heat appear.
• There is evidence or suspicion that a liquid has intruded into any enclosure.
• The power cord or the power supply have been in contact with any liquid.
• The unit/components has been dropped or damaged in any way.
3.2
System Grounding and Potential Equalization of Avance
Systems
In order to ensure a safe handling of the spectrometer under any condition, AVANCE
systems must be part of the general potential equalization at the user's site.
To establish a complete potential equalization of the whole system, each system is delivered
with grounding cables that have to be attached to the console, the HPPR and the magnet as
follows:
• A cable must be connected from the central grounding point located on the lower backside
of the cabinet, to the grounding of the building.
• When an external preamplifier (HPPR/2) is used, a cable has to be connected from the
central grounding point of the spectrometer to the grounding point of the external
preamplifier base plate (second figure below).
• A cable must be connected from the magnet grounding point to the grounding point of the
spectrometer (first figure below), or if an external preamplifier is used, to the grounding
point of the external preamplifier (second figure below).
Please note that the grounding cables must be in place and tightly connected to the
respective grounding points before the AVANCE system is energized or connected to the
mains connector. Disconnecting one of the cables is only allowed after the whole system has
been switched off.
The customer must be advised by the service engineer to take note of the safety information
in this manual. A confirmation that they have been instructed to do so is part of the
Acceptance Protocol.
