To Temporarily Restore Power Using
Extension Cords
When using extension cords or mobile distribution
networks, the total length of cords for a cross section of
1.5mm
2
should not exceed 60 m, for a cross section of
2.5mm
2
this should not exceed 100 m.
1. Only use cords marked for outdoor use rated for your
loads.
2. Follow cord safety instructions.
3. Extension cords running directly into the home
increase your risk of carbon monoxide poisoning
through openings. Install carbon monoxide alarm(s).
4. Before your next home power outage, install a manual
transfer switch.
To Restore Home Power Using a Transfer
Switch
Connections to your home’s electrical system must use a
manual transfer switch installed by a qualified electrician.
The connection must isolate the generator power from
the utility power and comply with all applicable laws and
electrical codes.
