Chapter 6: Installing the handles, leg support and mattress.
FIG. 6B - LEG AND CONNECTOR ROD, LEFT SIDE
Install the leg
connector rod
between the legs
and secure with
1/4”-20 x 1 1/4”
Hex head bolts
and star washers
from Hardware
Package #4 and
securely tighten
Hex bolt with a
7/16” socket.
STEP 3
FIG. 6C - LEG POSITION
The legs and leg connector rod will rotate up
when the bed is closed which will also hold the
mattress in place.
At this point you can install
the mattress in the frame,
balancing the spring tension will
be covered in the next chapter.
STEP 4
If you have an additional leg rod that is shorter than the distance between the
two legs, you can dispose of it as it is not needed. It’s used only for vertical beds
and not for horizontal beds.
Optional:
Attach the Velcro straps from Hardware Package #5
for securing the mattress and bedding. Attach approximately
18” down from the Leg End and 6” in from the side by
inserting a screw and washer through one end of the Velcro
strap and into the back side of the Bed Face Panel. This is
optional because most mattresses will be held in with the legs
and leg connector rod. We recommend NOT doing this unless needed.
STEP 5
optional
The mattress sits directly on top of the support stiffeners, which there is a slight
difference between the support stiffeners and the bed doors. This isn’t an issue with
nearly all mattresses, since the difference is distributed throughout the mattress.
If your mattress is very thin (4” and under), you can level out the difference with
rigid insulation panels. These can be found at any home improvement store,
and are usually white or blue (blueboard). They are low-cost, lightweight and can be
carefully cut with a utility knife to fit in the gaps between the support stiffeners.
