Installation
Unpacking
Carefully unpack the TA-2 amplifier and save all packing materials. Check that the items
shown in Figure 1 are included in the carton. Should you need to transport this product,
repack it in the original carton.
Location guidelines
• The BUILT-INvisible
®
TA-2 theater amplifier must be mounted vertically on a wall. It can be
located in a basement, large closet, or similar out-of-the-way location with ventilation.
• Like other amplifiers, the TA-2 amplifier generates heat during operation and requires circu-
lating air to prevent overheating. For this reason, it should be installed in areas where heat-
ing and cooling are provided. It also requires an AC power outlet nearby, most conveniently
within 3 feet.
WARNING:
Do not put the TA-2 amplifier directly above intense heat sources such as radiators,
space heaters, or other amplification equipment.
• Do not put the TA-2 amplifier in environments with temperatures exceeding 100°F (40°C).
WARNING:
Never mount the TA-2 amplifier to a ceiling or between floor joists. Such locations
will not provide adequate air movement around the heat sink and overheating may occur.
CAUTION:
Do not mount the TA-2 amplifier within a plenum space.
CAUTION:
Do not mount the TA-2 amplifier to an uninsulated exterior wall or in locations where
condensation may occur.
CAUTION:
Do not install the TA-2 amplifier in a recreational vehicle or boat.
• It is good practice to mount all the amplifiers in one central location. A central mounting
location that has all speaker, volume control, and signal cables running to it will make any
future changes in source-to-zone assignments easier.
• Choose a location that provides good ventilation, and provides easy access should you
need to adjust or service the system. Avoid cramped, tight spaces that will make service
difficult.
• Wires from the home theater room are routed to the TA-2 amplifier location. Make sure that
location provides easy access for running the wires and connecting them.
Mounting guidelines
For open wall mounting
• The TA-2 theater amplifier should be mounted vertically on a ¾-inch (min.) plywood board
in the orientation shown in Figure 2.
• Mount the amplifier to the board using all four mounting holes. In the U.S.,
#10 x 1.5-in sheet metal or
3
/
16
-inch diameter wood screws (or 4 mm diameter metric
screws) are recommended for use with the keyhole-type mounting holes on the chassis.
• Choose a mounting location that will allow you to make connections easily.
• Be sure to use proper attachment techniques for your wall construction type.
CAUTION:
Do not mount on surfaces that are not sturdy enough, or that have hazards con-
cealed behind them, such as electrical wire or plumbing.
• Some city or state regulations require a mounting board to be installed on block or concrete
walls. You should familiarize yourself with local building codes to ensure compliance.
• Wall construction and material must be sturdy enough to support the chassis weight
of 9.4 lb (4.25 kg).
• Be sure the selected spot is safe for drilling. Avoid surfaces that could conceal hazards like
electrical conduits or plumbing.
