Intercom

The vehicle's safety glass windows
make it much more difficult to hear
what is going on outside.
To communicate with someone outside
the vehicle without having to lower a
window or open a door, an intercom
system is provided. It is ready to use as
soon as the vehicle has been unlocked.
The system remains operational if the
ignition is switched off:
>
In ignition key positions 1 and 2 only
while the doors remain shut
>
For about 15 minutes after removing
the ignition key.
Switching on/off
Press button 1. Light-emitting diode 2
indicates readiness for use.
When the intercom is switched on, the
remaining loudspeakers inside the
vehicle (radio, cassette or CD replay,
TV sound) are muted.
Listening
Sound from outside the vehicle is
picked up by microphones in both
outside mirrors and can be heard auto-
matically through loudspeaker 4 after
switching the intercom on. Sound from
inside the vehicle is not transmitted to
the outside.
Speaking
Hold "Speak" button 5 down. If you
speak into microphone 3, what you say
will be heard outside from loud-
speakers concealed in the front and
rear bumpers.
Volume control
The volume can be continuously varied
at knurled wheel 6. The higher the
volume control setting, the more sensi-
tively the intercom reacts to wind noise
when the vehicle is in motion, and to
feedback effects (whistle).
The intercom can only be used for
alternate speaking and listening,
not for both functions at the same time.
The vehicle's windows and doors
should be closed when using the
intercom, to prevent feedback between
the loudspeakers and the microphone
(whistling sound).
