Engine oil

Vehicle equipment

All standard, country-specific and optional
equipment that is offered in the model series is
described in this chapter. Therefore, equipment
is also described that is not available in a vehicle,
e. g., because of the selected optional equip‐
ment or country variant. This also applies for
safety-related functions and systems.

General information

Engine oil consumption depends on driving
style and driving conditions, e.g., if your driving
style is very sporty engine oil consumption will
be considerably greater.
Therefore, regularly check the engine oil level
after refueling.

Check oil level with dipstick

The concept

The minimum oil level is electronically moni‐
tored.
If the oil level reaches the minimum level, a
check control message is displayed.

Checking the oil level

1.

Park vehicle on a level service with engine at
operating temperature after driving at least
6 miles/10 km

2.

Switch the engine off.

3.

After approx. 5, minutes, remove the dip
stick and wipe with a lint-free cloth, paper
towel or similar.

4.

Carefully insert the dipstick up to the stop in
the measuring tube, and pull it back out.
The oil level must be between the two marks
of the dipstick.
The quantity of oil between the two marks of
the dipstick is approx. 1 US quart/liter.

Do not exceed the top mark
Do not exceed the top mark of the dipstick.

Adding too much oil is damaging to the engine.
Have the vehicle checked immediately.◀

Low oil level message

The yellow warning lamp lights up. En‐
gine oil level is below the minimum. Add
1 US quart/liter at the next opportunity.

The oil level is monitored electronically during
driving and shown on the Control Display.
If the oil level reaches the minimum level, a
check control message is displayed.
