• Under extreme conditions, battery leakage may
occur. When you notice liquid on the batteries,
carefully wipe the liquid off using a cloth. Avoid skin
contact.
CHARGERS
The following symbols are found on your mains
charger:
Your charger is double
insulated; therefore no earth
wire is required.
Your charger is a switch mode
power supply unit.
Your charger incorporates
a short-circuit-proof safety
isolating transformer
(inherently or non-inherently)
Indication of correct connection
of your charger.
The charger is intended for
indoor use only.
Your charger meets the Energy
Efficiency Level V standard
for no-load condition electric
power consumption and
average active efficiency of
external power supplies.
Your charger is rated to IP20
degree of protection provided
by the enclosure.
Your charger has been designed for a specific voltage.
Always check that the mains voltage corresponds to
the voltage on the rating plate.
Warning!
Never attempt to replace the charger unit
with a regular mains plug.
Use your Black & Decker charger only to charge the
battery in the tool with which it was supplied. Other
batteries could burst, causing personal injury and
damage.
• Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
• Have defective cords replaced immediately.
• Do not expose the charger to water.
• Do not open the charger.
• Do not probe the charger.
• The battery must be placed in a well ventilated area
when charging.
Electrical safety
Always check that the power supply corresponds to
the voltage on the rating plate.
• The supply cord cannot be replaced. If the cord is
damaged the appliance should be scrapped.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Always have protective eyewear when using this
product: contact with battery acid may cause
blindness and/or severe burns. Be aware of first aid
procedures in case of accidental contact with battery
acid.
Avoid touching the eyes while working with a battery.
Acid, acid particles or corrosion may get into the eyes.
Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case
battery acid contacts skin.
Remove personal metal items such as rings, bracelets,
necklaces and watches when working with a lead-acid
battery. A lead-acid battery can produce a short circuit
current high enough to cause a severe burn.
Be extra cautious to reduce the risk of dropping a
metal object onto the battery. This might cause sparks
or short-circuit the battery or other electrical part,
which can cause an explosion.
Warning!
Battery fluid is a diluted sulphuric acid and
may cause personal injury or damage to property. In
case of skin or eye contact, follow the instructions
below.
• In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with water.
If redness, pain or irritation occurs seek medical
attention.
• In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with clean
water and seek immediate medical attention.

USE
Charging the unit
This unit is shipped in a partially charged state.
• Charge the unit before first use using the mains
charging adapter for 40 hours.
Lead-acid batteries require routine maintenance
to ensure a full charge and a long battery life. All
batteries lose energy from self-discharge over time
and more rapidly at higher temperatures. When the
unit is not in use, Black & Decker recommend that the
battery is charged at least every 30 days.
• Check the battery charge level by pressing the
battery status pushbutton. The LED charge status
display will indicate the level of battery charge. When
only one red LED lights, charge the unit.
• Make sure all other unit functions are turned off
during recharging, as this can slow the recharging
process.
Note:
Charging the battery after each use will prolong the battery
life; frequent heavy discharges between charges and/or
overcharging will reduce battery life.
Important!
When the battery is overly discharged and
if the green LED is lit when the charger is plugged in,
this indicates the battery is at a high impedance stage.
In this event, recharge the unit and leave the unit
charging for a period of 24-48 hours before use.
CHARGING THE UNIT USING THE MAINS
CHARGING ADAPTER
• Insert the jack of the mains charging adapter into the
charging socket on the back of the unit.
• Insert the appropriate mains charging adapter plug
into a mains power socket.
• Charge until two red and one green (full) battery
status LEDs light or flash.
• Continue to charge for one to two more hours.
• Once fully charged disconnect the Mains charging
adapter from the mains power socket and then
remove the jack plug of Mains charging adapter from
the charging socket on the back of the unit. Store it
in a safe place.
CHARGING THE UNIT USING THE DC CHARGING
ADAPTER (OPTIONAL ACCESSORY)
Charging the unit from an external 12 volt DC power
source requires the use of the 12V DC charging
adapter. This adapter has a male DC connector at each
end.
• Insert the gold-tipped plug of the 12V DC charging
adapter into the accessory socket socket of your
vehicle or other 12V DC power source.
• Insert the silver-tipped plug into the 12V DC
accessory socket on the front panel of the unit.
• Charge the unit until the green (full) battery status
LED lights when the battery power level button is
pressed (AFTER unplugging the adapter from the
unit).
• When charging is complete, disconnect the 12V DC
charging adapter and store it in a safe place.
Note:
Some vehicles require that the ignition be switched to the
accessory socket position in order to power the accessory
socket.
Caution! To reduce the risk of property damage:
• Recharge using this method only when necessary.
Frequent use the the 12 volt DC charging method
may shorten battery life.
• Do not charge for longer than 6 hours maximum
using this method and do not leave the unit
unattended when charging using this method.
• Never connect the 12V DC charging adapter to a
positive grounded vehicle.
• The 12V DC charging adapter must only be
connected to batteries with a nominal output voltage
of 12 volts. The unit will not operate from a 6
volt battery and will sustain permanent damage if
connected to a 24 volt battery.
Using the unit as a jump-starter
Warning!
Make sure that the vehicle is in neutral with
the parking brake applied.
Warning!
Make sure that the cables are not in the
path of moving belts or the fan.
1. Turn off the vehicle’s ignition and all accessories
before making any connections.
2. Make sure that the jump-starter power switch is
turned off.
3. Check polarity of battery posts. Positive (POS, P,
+) battery post usually has larger diameter than
negative (NEG, N, –) post.
4. Determine which post of the battery is grounded
(connected to the chassis). If negative post is
grounded (as in most vehicles), see 5. If positive
post is grounded, see 6.
5. For negative-grounded vehicle, connect positive
(red) clamp from battery charger to positive
(POS, P, +) ungrounded post of battery. Connect
negative (black) clamp to vehicle chassis or
engine block away from battery. Do not connect
clip to carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body
parts. Connect to heavy gauge metal part of the
frame or engine block.
6. For positive-grounded vehicle, connect negative
(black) clamp from battery charger to negative
(NEG, N, –) ungrounded post of battery. Connect
positive (red) clamp to vehicle chassis or engine
block away from battery. Do-not connect clip to
carburetor, fuel lines or sheet-metal body parts.
Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame
or engine block.
