4. Operation

In this chapter, you’ll find detailed instructions for operating the T1 or E1 Fiber Mux. The information
presented in this chapter includes a description of the mux’s front-panel controls and its operating procedures
(turning on, front-panel indications, and turning off).

4.1 Front-Panel Indicators, Connectors, and Pushbutton 

Figure 4-1 shows the mux’s front panel. Table 4-1 lists the functions of the mux’s connectors, indicators, and
single button located on the front panel. The numbers in Table 4-1 correspond to the numbers in Figure 4-1.

POWER A indicator

Off when the main power supply is not powered.
Lights in green when the main power supply is turned on and operates 
normally.
Lights in red when the main power supply is turned on and a malfunction has 
been detected. In this case, the mux continues to operate normally using the 
backup power supply.

POWER B indicator

Off when the backup power supply is not powered.
Lights in green when the backup power supply is turned on and operates 
normally.
Lights in red when the backup power supply is turned on and a malfunction 
has been detected. In this case, the mux continues to operate normally using 
the main power supply.

SYSTEM MNG indicator

Lights when the internal management board is engaged in an active 
management session.
When the MNG indicator lights, the front-panel SYSTEM CALL pushbutton is 
functional.

SYSTEM CALL indicator

Lights when a call alert is received through the service channel from the 
remote operator.
