CHAPTER 5: Sending Data and Faxes
1. Prepare your computer to autodial a call.
See your modem manual for instructions.
2. If your modem is configured to wait for a dial
tone before dialing, reconfigure the Dial
command
ATDT
to:
ATX3DT

tells your modem to dial without waiting
for a dial tone.

specifies touchtone dialing.

is the remote modem’s telephone
number.
If you cannot edit the Dial command line, add
X3
to the modem initialization command string.
3. Lift the telephone handset and listen for a dial
tone. Leave the handset out of the cradle.
Do not
hang it up, or you will terminate the call.
4. Perform one of the following steps:
• If your modem does not look for a dial tone
or if you added
X3
, use the telephone keypad
to dial the remote modem’s telephone
number. Then press
Enter
on your computer
keyboard.
