Negotiation
on the
PoE Compact Media Converter
must be disabled. Half- and
Full-Duplex settings must be manually set and match on both devices to which
the
PoE Compact Media Converter
is connected. The diagram below shows a
typical application, followed by a table with three possible configurations.
If you are unsure of how best to implement these features in your
configuration, please contact Black Box technical support at 877-877-BBOX

Whether you are using crossover or straight-through CAT5 twisted pair
cabling,
PoE Compact Media Converters
will support both types of connec-
tions.
PoE Compact Media Converters
include
AutoCross
, a feature that
automatically selects between a crossover workstation or pass-through con-
nection depending on the connected device.
LED Operation
PoE Compact Media Converters
feature diagnostic LEDs. The diagram
below shows the location of the unit’s LEDs. The LED functions follow.
LNK/ACT
Glows amber when a twisted pair
link
is established; blinks
amber when activity is detected on the port (located on RJ-45
connector).

ZERO CRNT
Glows red when there is no device connected to the
PoE Compact Media Converter
. Glows red when the
device connected to the
PoE Compact Media Converter
is
NOT a valid PD. The LED is
OFF
when the
PoE
Compact Media Converter
detects a valid PD.
OVER CRNT
Glows red when an overcurrent condition lasts for
more than 60 ms after power up and/or glows red when
an over temperature condition occurs.
PWR FAIL
Glows red when an overcurrent or internal fault is detect-
ed within the
PoE Compact Media Converter
PoE circuit.
PWR
Glows green when the
PoE Compact Media Converter
has
power (i.e. when the unit is plugged in).
AN
Glows green when Auto-Negotiation is enabled.
TX LL
Glows green when
TX LinkLoss
is enabled.
FX LL
Glows green when
FX LinkLoss
is enabled.
FA
Glows green when
FiberAlert
is enabled. Blinks green when
a
FiberAlert
situation occurs (i.e. the loss of one strand of fiber).
4W
Glows green when Powered Device consumes 3.84 watts
to 4 watts of power (CLASS1 PD).
7W
Glows green when Powered Device consumes 6.49 watts
to 7 watts of power (CLASS2 PD).
15.4W
Glows green when Powered Device consumes 12.95
watts to 15.4 watts of power (CLASS0 PD).
FX LNK/ACT
Glows green when link is established on the fiber port;
blinks green when activity is detected on the port.
Installation Troubleshooting
•
During installation, first test the fiber and twisted pair connections
with all troubleshooting features disabled, then enable these fea-
tures, if desired, just before final installation. This will reduce the
features’ interference with testing.
•
When working with units where the features cannot be disabled,
you must establish BOTH your twisted pair and fiber connections
before the link LEDs will light!
•
To test a media converter by itself, first make sure you have an
appropriate fiber patch cable, then follow these steps to test:
