power supply that meets all applicable electrical code requirements, including
grounding requirements. If you are not certain that your electrical system meets
these requirements, you should consult with a qualified, licensed electrical sys-

Now, press the key to start the UPS. The display should
show “On,” then the percent of the UPS’ power that is being
used. (This may show a small number now.) The green light (on
the key) should be on. If the red Alarm light is on and the dis-
play shows a two-letter alarm message, go to the
on page 14; if there is another problem, go to the
on page 17. (If you need to shut the UPS off, press
and hold the key.)

The battery charges automatically whenever the green
light is on. To make sure the UPS’ batteries can supply power,
let the batteries charge for at least 12 hours, especially if you
have stored the UPS. To check the battery charge, see

Turn the AS/400 off. Connect the cord
that came with the UPS to the AS/400;
then, plug it into the outlets on the back
of the UPS. For the LI1420E-B74, you
received two extra cords for connecting
other equipment to the Fortress.
LI1420U-B73 and LI1420E-B74: When
you connect the AS/400 to the UPS, make
sure you tighten the Phillips screw at the UPS outlet to secure the connection.

The UPS includes a logic interface con-
nector to be connected to your AS/400
system. Plug the end of the cable labeled
“UPS” into the communication connector
on the UPS. Plug the end of the cable
labeled “AS/400” into the connector
labeled “UPS” on the AS/400. This con-
nector is on the back of the AS/400 base
cabinet. If you reverse the cable, the
AS/400 will power down immediately.
