5 Maintenance

5.1 Frame

The frame is powder coated. This creates a hard coating. To prevent corrosion it is important to regularly clean the frame. Should
you want to grease the frame for the purpose of conservation, only use acid-free Vaseline. Minor damage may be restored with
some paint. The right varnish may be obtained from your dealer.

5.2 Wheels

/Tires

The rear wheels have ball bearings. The BF-3 transmission hub has to be checked every half year.
Regularly check the wheel rims and tires for damage (cuts, tears, bumps). Attention: damage to rims and tires may cause
accidents!

Tire pressure should be according to specifications (chapter Technical specifications). (Remember pressure increases at high
temperatures). At the right pressure, the BalanzBike runs smoothly and lightly. If there is not enough pressure the tires tend to get
punctured more easily and excessive wear and tear occurs. If there is too much pressure the tire can come loose. This may lead
to dangerous situations. (Be aware that pressure increases under high temperatures and in blazing sun!) Tires should not get into
contact with chemicals like: oil, grease or fuel. Make sure the valve caps are always on.

Spokes (only for spoke front wheel)
Under normal circumstances spokes will stretch after a short while of use, due to the forces on the front wheel.
This can cause play, which can evidently damage the front wheel. The wheel can be released from play by tensioning the spokes.

All spokes in the front wheel must be exposed to the same tension. The tension of the spokes can be adjusted by a spoke
tensioner. Whit the tensioner you’re able to loosen or tighten the nipple, which attaches the spoke to the rim. By doing so, you’ll
increase or decrease the tension on the spoke. Lack or excess of tension may cause damage on the wheel.

5.3 Chain

The chain needs to be greased regularly in order to have it run smoothly. If the chain is pulled too tight, the BalanzBike will be
heavy to peddle and the axle could break even it enlarges the chance that spare parts wear out.
If the chain is not tight enough, the chain guard may be damaged and the chain will run off from the gear wheel.

To tighten the chain you have to do the following:

Remove on the right side (seen from position of the seat) the gear cable and the “guider roll” from the front wheel

Loosen the nuts on both sides

Pull the wheel towards the rear of the vehicle. Please be aware that the wheel stays straight

Fasten nuts on both sides (Torque 30-40 Nm)

Turn in the small shifter chain until stop, and then loosen ½ to 1 turn.

Put the guider roll onto the nut.

Adjust the BF-3 transmission cable as mentioned in chapter Assembly.

5.4 Crankshaft

(At first ride of a new BalanzBike)
After a few days of using (at intensive use) till two weeks (at normal use) you have to fasten the bolts of the right and the left
crank arms. Be aware that you do this “hand tight”, that means with a rotation torque of maximum 30Nm. You can also contact
your dealer. He/she will do that for you. (It is usual after a short period of using the vehicle; the crankshaft will set itself correctly
after influence of force on the pedals. A side effect of this is, play is possible. It can cause damaging of the crank and the
crankshaft. This play can be prevented by fastening the crank bolts.

5.5 Plastic

parts

The plastic parts have to be checked regularly for damage and breaking. If breaking occurs, the specific part should be replaced
immediately by an original part in order to guarantee the safety of the user.
