Check all pockets on a garment to make sure that they are
empty.

Remove any detachable metal items (badges,
paperclips, safety pins etc).

Zips should be closed, duvet covers and
pillow cases should be buttoned up and any loose straps should
be tied up. This will help to prevent other garments from getting
damaged during the wash.

Woolens and knitted coloured fabrics should be turned inside out
before being washed in the appliance.

Small delicate items (tights, baby socks) should be placed in
either a washing net or a zipped pillow case.

Curtains should be handled with particular care. All plastic hooks
or metal strips must be removed before being washed in the
appliance.

Coloured items and whites should be washed
in separate wash cycles.

New garments often contain an excess of
dye, therefore it is advisable to wash them separately for their
