5.3.3 M2 Maintenance Operations
M2 maintenance operations include ALL M1 MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS and the follow-
ings:

Clean the intercooler, air and water side
(if equipped)

Air Side.
To clean the fins, immerse the
stack in a tank containing a de-
greasant solution. It is most effec-
tive when used as close to boiling
point as possible. Either steam or
electric immersion heaters may be
used to heat the water. If the de-
greasant used is in powder form
then the powder should be added
to the boiling water (never vice
versa). Agitation of the solution,
either by raising or lowering the
stack or by means of a jet of steam
or air may accelerate the washing
process.

Water Side.
To clean the tubes internally if the
scale is hard and too stubborn to
remove with wire brushes we
recommend removal by dipping in
and acid solution.

Clean the intercooler (if equipped)

Remove the cooler from the engine
and strip down so that the stack
can be immersed in a cleaning
tank. When the branch and return
headers are removed, the stack
comprising tube plates, side plates
and cooler sections can be im-
mersed first to clean the fins and
secondly to descale the tubes.
