Please read these simple instructions before making any attempt to permanently or
temporarily install your
B a tteryM I N D er
® SCC1224 Solar Charger – Maintainer – Desulfator
controller and solar panel.
OVERVIEW
Note:
Your battery(s) needs to be in “good” condition to gain the full benefits from your
B a tteryM I N D er®
Solar Charger – Maintainer – Desulfator. By “good” we mean no shorted
cells, and a “rested” voltage of a minimum 8.50 volts for a 12 volt battery (17 volts for a 24 volt
battery). Your solar panel must be oriented in a direction that will ensure maximum exposure
to the Sun. The solar controller must be mounted in an area where it can be easily seen,
protected from the elements (direct rainfall) and bright sunlight (where it would be difficult to
see the 3 LED status indicators). It is important that the controller is in the same general
temperature environment as the battery(s). The built-in temperature compensation lowers
the charging voltage when the environment is too hot - to prevent out gassing. It raises the
charging voltage when the environment is too cold - to keep the battery fully charged. An
extension is available for a remote temperature sensor (VDC Electronics P/N ABS-248).
MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
Use the already attached velcro adhesive pad to either temporarily or permanently mount the
controller. This will allow you to change its location, should you ever wish to, without leaving
holes behind. You may also use the screw holes provided.
Connect output wires from the solar panel to the solar controller by twisting wires together
and using the correct wire nut (included). Be careful to observe correct polarity. Do one wire
at a time. Do not have solar panel exposed to sunlight while wiring. Cover solar panel to avoid
electrical shock hazards. Do not touch wires together. Connect cord set with ring terminals
supplied (RTA-2415) or battery clamps (BCAA-2415) to battery terminals. Observe polarity
indications on ring end of wires:

= + (POSITIVE) BLACK/
BLUE
= - (NEGATIVE)
Note: Never try to use your SCC1224 solar controller with any other solar panel in excess of
20 Watts total. Doing so will burn out your controller and void your warranty and
guarantee.
