Applying the harness
Measure the chest circumference and refer to
the size chart to find the correct size (see size
chart).
Step 1
Measure the length of the foot and cut the liner
of the bootie along the dotted line(s) to achieve
the best fit
(Fig. 1)
. Reattach the liner to the
harness. Repeat this step for the other side.
Step 2
Undo the chest strap and position the baby so
the midline of the back is where the straps cross
(Fig. 2).
Step 3
Guide the arm through the shoulder strap
(Fig. 3)
,
and repeat this step on the other side.
Step 4
Close the chest strap at the front, making sure
it’s positioned just below the axilla (armpit), the
shoulder straps are adjusted to the correct
length and are resting midpoint on the
shoulders
(Fig. 4)
. Adjust if necessary.
Step 5
Wrap the bootie liner around the foot; close the
lower ankle strap first. Across the front from
medial to lateral and attach the Velcro strap.
Next, close the upper ankle strap across the
back from medial to lateral and attach the
Velcro strap
(Fig. 5)
. Repeat these steps on the
other side.
Step 6
The leg and foot straps have a corresponding
color coding. Always ensure that color closes by
color. Red and Blue are the flexion straps and
Green and Yellow are the abduction straps.
Adjust the flexion straps making sure the legs
are 90º flexed
(Fig. 6)
.
Step 7
Now adjust the abduction straps with the leg in
60º abduction
(Fig. 7)
. Repeat this step on the
other side. Flexion and abduction settings are
just a general guideline. Any instructions from
the physician that deviates from this should
always be respected.
Step 8
Continue to check all straps once more for
correct positioning
(Fig. 8)
. We recommend
using a pen to mark all the closure setting on
the straps making sure they are positioned
correctly next time applied.
Taking the harness off
Note:
you do NOT need to take the harness off
to change the baby‘s diaper. Bathe the baby as
quickly as possible in order to keep the time out
of the orthesis to a minimum.
To ensure that the flexion settings are not
changed when taking off the harness, simply
undo the two ankle straps to take the feet out of
the harness. Then undo the chest strap and pull
the arms through the shoulder straps to remove
the rest of the harness.
To put the harness back on, pull the arms
through the shoulder straps again and reattach
the ankle straps in accordance with the
instructions in Step 6.
