Testing the data signal path

REPAIR TIPS, ENGLISH
The BeoLink Converter is equipped with one-way IR software. The audio
signal path is two-way between Master Link (ML) and Audio Aux Link
(AAL).
The BeoLink Video is equipped with one-way IR software. All Master
Link output components have been removed, which means that the
audio signal path is one-way from Master Link (ML) to Audio Aux Link
(AAL).
- Connect to pin 12 a voltage of between 7V and 15V.
- Connect to pin 11 a voltage of between -7V and -15V.
- Connect the metal jacket on the Master Link socket to ground (OV).
- The voltages at pin 2 (Data+) and pin 1 (Data-) are most easily
generated by means of the following external components:
+5V
(DATA+)
1N4148
(DATA-)
-sv
- Connect the AUX input/output of a Beomaster (e.g. a BM 4500) to the
AAL socket on the box.
- Set the Beomaster to options 1 or 2 by pressing
•
SOUND, 1 or 2,
STORE.
- press LINK SHIFT LINK (Beolink 1000mkll) or LINK LIGHT (Beolink
1000mklll, 5000, 7000).
These commands are transmitted via IR to the Beomaster, which
transmits the data signal via the data link in the AAL cable to the box, in
which the data signal is converted into the ML data format.
lt is now possible to measure balanced data signals at Data+ and Data
(see figure), and the following circuits can be tested:
AAL
->
ML:
AAL data receiver, microprocessor, ML data transmitter.
ML
->
AAL:
The ML data receiver is tested by measuring at pin 10 of IC2 (MLRX); the
signal must be identical with that measured at pin 11 of IC2 (MLTX
transmit), only shifted 10-151-JS in time. The microprocessor and AAL
transmit can be tested by transmitting ML codes to the converter box
from a BeoVision Avant, for example.

REPAIR TIPS, ENGLISH
Bang&Oiufsen
The ML data transceiver circuit has been designed so that individual
components may be defective without hampering the functioning of the
circuit in general. For example, the diodes 6034, 6035, 6036, 6037, 6038
and 6039 are protection diodes which protect against static electricity.
If one of the diodes is defective, all the diodes must be checked/
replaced.
