AMI BIOS Fatal Error Codes

The following table contains all AMI BIOS beep codes. Except
for Beep Code 8, they are always fatal.

Refresh Failure
The memory refresh circuitry the motherboard
is faulty.
2 beeps Parity Error
A parity error was detected in the first 64KB
block of memory.
3 beeps
Base 64KB Memory
Failure
Memory failure in first 64KB.
4 beeps
Timer Not
Operational
A memory failure occurred within the first
64KB of memory, or Timer 1 on the
motherboard is not functioning.
5 beeps Processor Error
The CPU (Central Processing Unit) on the
motherboard generated an error.
6 beeps
8042-Bate A20
Failure
Gate A20 on the keyboard controller (8042)
allows the CPU to operate in protected mode.
The BIOS is not able to switch the CPU to
protected mode.
7 beeps
Processor Exception
Interrupt Error
The CPU generated an exception
interrupt.
8 beeps
Display Memory
Read/ Write Error The system video adapter is either missing or
its memory is faulty. This is not a fatal error.
9 beeps
ROM Checksum
Error
The ROM checksum value does not match the
value encoded in the BIOS.
10 beeps
CMOS Shutdown
Register Read/Write
Error
The shutdown register for CMOS RAM
failed.
11 beeps
Cache Error/External
Cache Bad
The external cache is faulty.
