FRITZ!Box Fon – 3 Configuring FRITZ!Box Fon for Internet Connections
3 Configuring FRITZ!Box Fon for
Internet Connections
There are two ways to use FRITZ!Box Fon for connections
with the Internet. In both cases you need account informa-
tion from an Internet Service Provider.
z
FRITZ!Box Fon establishes the connection with the Inter-
net.
For this an Internet connection with the account infor-
mation from the Internet Service Provider must be set
up in the FRITZ!Box Fon user interface. All connected
computers can then use this Internet connection at the
same time. It is not necessary to install any additional
Internet access software on the other connected com-
puters.
In this mode FRITZ!Box Fon works like a DSL router and
uses the Internet Service Provider’s account informa-
tion. For information about how to configure FRITZ!Box
Fon for this operating mode, see the section “FRITZ!Box
Fon Uses the Internet Service Provider’s Account Infor-
mation” from page 33.
Most Internet telephony providers only allow Internet
telephony to be used when FRITZ!Box Fon establishes
the Internet connection itself.
z
The computers connected to FRITZ!Box Fon establish
the Internet connections themselves.
In this case FRITZ!Box Fon works like a DSL modem and
is responsible only for forwarding data. An Internet con-
nection must be configured on the connected comput-
ers, using the Internet access software and the account
information from an Internet Service Provider. The Inter-
net access software is also required to establish Inter-
net connections.
If your Internet Service Provider supplies its own access
software, you can use this software for your computers.
