Glossary
Peripheral
An external device connected to the system. Peripherals are generally used for input and output. Examples include disks,
LAN, and printers.
Plug and play function
- This is a function for easy, convenient and automatic configurations of new hardware.
- When the LCD monitor is connected to a computer, using DDC(Display Data Channel) - a kind of communication
medium, optimal screen status is configured.
PCI Bus (Peripheral Component Interconnect Local Bus)
PCI bus is a specification that defines a 32-bit data bus interface. PCI is a standard widely used by expansion card
manufactures.
POST (Power On Self Test)
When you turn on the system, it will first run through the POST, a series of software-controlled diagnostic tests. The POST
checks system memory, the motherboard circuitry, the keyboard, the diskette drive, and other I/O devices.
Power saving
To save energy while the system is non operating, a signal must be received from video chipsets to initialize Energy saving
status. This signal is called VESA DPMS (Video electronics standards association power management signaling). Modern
LCD monitors mostly support this saving function (DPMS). Since mostly LCD monitors are not used solely, this energy
saving function is not controlled by the LCD monitor, but rather controlled by the system.
