UL 263 Fire-Resistant Speaker Assemblies
FR Series
Atlas Sound has developed the only speaker assemblies that are UL classified for fire-resistance in the
United States and Canada. The FR Series has passed a fire-rating up to three hours (rating varies by ceiling construc-
tion) and has been tested in accordance with the UL standard – Fire Test of Building Construction and Materials,
ANSI/UL263 (ASTM E119, NFPA 251).
FR Series assemblies include an enclosure-fiber kit, UL Listed speaker / transformer assembly, and UL Listed baffle.
Each enclosure-fiber kit includes pre-cut fiber panels, metal enclosure, rail set and hardware. The speaker / trans-
former combinations approved for use in FR assemblies are FR versions of the industry standard Atlas Sound Strategy
Series
®
FA136 , FA138 models and the C803A , C10A , and FC104 loudspeakers. The approved baffles are also FR
versions of familiar Atlas Sound models.

Q. Why do I need Atlas Sound Fire Rated Ceiling Speaker Assemblies?
A. You will need the Atlas Sound Fire Rated Speaker Assemblies if the ceiling being constructed has to conform to UL
Standard 263 "Fire Tests of Building Construction Materials". These will work in 32 different 1 hour, 2 hour, and 3
hour fire resistant ceiling designs as listed in the 1999 UL Fire Resistance Directory.
Q. How can I find out if the Atlas Sound FR Series will be approved in my application?
A. Check with the local Fire Marshall or Building Inspector, who will have the final say in the approval of the FR Series
Loudspeakers.
Q. Will the Atlas Sound Fire Rated Speakers work in a sheet rock ceiling?
A. No, the UL Standard 263 is for drop in or lay in tile applications only.
Q. Can I just use the FR Series baffles, enclosures or speakers by themselves?
A. No, the UL Standard 263 is only for the entire package only.
