Self-Monitoring by the Operator
As operator of the wastewater treatment plant you have the obligation to the water
authority to ensure a smooth operation of the wastewater treatment plant. Operating
faults in biological small wastewater treatment plants, in almost all cases, are reflected in
the discharge quality of the treated water. These must therefore be identified promptly
and remedied by yourself or a qualified maintenance firm.
In order to document the self- monitoring you are obliged to keep an operations diary. You will find
the form specified for this: “
Operations diary – self-monitoring by the operator”
at the end of
this handbook. It is best to keep this in the vicinity of the control unit. The water authority can
demand access to this operations diary.
In detail you are required to carry out the following checks regularly:
Daily:
•
Function of the control unit and
•
Check for unusual indications.
Monthly:
•
Transfer of the operating hours from the display into the operations diary (can possibly be
dispensed with the presence of an electronic logbook and in consultation with the responsible
water authority).
•
Visual check of the submersible aerator for thorough mixing and input of air bubbles.
•
Visual check of the water level in the primary settling stage. No sludge may pass over
uncontrolled into the aeration chamber.
•
Visual check of discharging water for bulking sludge.
•
Investigation of the free discharge in order to avoid a back-up in the aeration chamber.
If you observe the following recommendations you can save unnecessary repair costs and
increase the service life of your plant:
•
Infiltration water such as rain water, groundwater, swimming pool and aquarium water may not
be discharged.
•
With household cleaners please bear in mind that this indicates no acidic or alkaline reactions.
•
The ventilation openings as well as the inlet and outlet openings must always remain free. The
cover to the plant must be capable of being opened.
•
Ensure that the plant is routinely maintained by a specialist firm.
•
Only the primary settling stage has to be regularly desludge (ca. every 12 months) by a
disposal company. Following consultation with the responsible water authority and conclusion
of a routine maintenance contract the desludging can, if required, also take place as required.
At the conclusion of the desludging the primary settling stage is to be so far filled
again with water that the outlet opening of the AQUAmax
®
is fully submerged!
