Pre-Startup Inspection
Look over the entire machine carefully before starting
the machine. If you have any questions about operating
the machine, resolve them before proceding any further.

WARNING
Before doing the pre-startup inspections, be
sure the battery disconnect switch is locked and
tagged out. For lock-out information, see
“Machine Lockout/Tagout” on page 40.

To perform the pre-start inspection:
1.
Check the maintenance log for the machine. Look
for any recent entries about required service.
Decide whether the machine can be operated safely
at this time.
2.
Do the Daily Maintenance according to the table in
the
6700B Maintenance Manual.
3.
Check the fire suppression equipment:
•
Make sure the water tank is full
•
Check the fuel level in the water pump
•
Make sure that the sprayer hose is intact
•
Make sure that the fire extinguisher and water
can are properly installed on the machine and
fully functional (see “Fire Prevention Equip-
ment” on page 51)
4.
Walk around the machine and check for the follow-
ing problems:
•
People on or near the machine
•
Fuel or hydraulic leaks
•
Frayed hoses
•
Worn belts or other indications that delays,
downtime, or hazards may be developing
•
Bearings in need of grease. Lubricate as indi-
cated by the maintenance schedule in the
6700B
Maintenance Manual
•
Loose bolts, nuts, and other mechanical fasten-
ers. Retighten as needed
•
Non-crushable objects and tools in the hopper
•
Correct installation of all machine guards and
protective devices
5.
Check fluid levels for the engine and the hydraulic
system:
•
Fuel level—Check the level at the gauge on the
fuel tank (Figure 94).

OTE
:
The sight gauge on the tank measures only the
bottom third of the tank.

Engine oil level—Locate the engine oil dipstick
(Figure 95) and check the oil level (Figure 96).
For the correct oil to use, see “Fluid Recom-
mendations” on page 84.
