3. Near return air or heating and cooling vents. Install at least 1m
away from these areas. The air could blow smoke away from the
detector, interrupting its alarm sensitivity.
4. In rooms where temperatures may fall below 10ºC or rise above
40ºC, or in humidity higher than 93%. These conditions will reduce
battery life or cause false alarms. Avoid poorly insulated walls and
ceilings.
5. In dusty, dirty, or insect infested areas such as attics, particles can
interfere with smoke alarm operation and cause false alarms.
6. Within 30cm of incandescent light fittings and 1.5m of fluorescent
light fittings.
Where are the best installation locations
• At first you need install an alarm in the bedroom and hallway. In the
case of several bedrooms, you should install an alarm in every
bedroom.
• Install one in the stairway and on every floor.
• Smoke and heat from burning materials spread horizontally after
rising to the ceiling, so installing an alarm in the middle of the ceiling
is preferable.
• If an alarm cannot be installed in the middle of the ceiling for some
reason, the distance the alarm should be placed from the corner of
the wall should be more than 50cm (see Diagram 1).
• If the length of the room or the hall is beyond 10m, install at least two
alarms in the hall.
• Smoke alarms in rooms with sloping ceilings greater than 12.5º
should be located on the high side of the ceiling. Install a smoke
alarm on sloping, peaked or cathedral ceilings between 50cm and
150cm from the highest point of the ceiling (see Diagram 2).
