Hinge hardware is pre-fitted before covering when the cabling
and linkages are set up and adjusted. Hardware brackets are
attanhed on top of the covering.
Note:
The wood trailing edge was initially used in the prototype 1/3
scale model and later replaced with the wire
NOTE 1:
Wing trailing edge was made from cable in the original
aircraft. For purposes of strength in flying models we used
music wire . When the covering is applied (from the back)
the material will pull the wire in slightly, giving a true scallop.
Attach the wire to the ribs as shown in the illustration by
soldering to the metal brackets as shown. Pin the brackets to
secure in place. Additional wood supports are included for
the trailing edge for flying models.

NOTE 2:
Mount the spruce block to the aluminum tube
after routing the block to fit one half of the radius
of the tube. Install the two keepers and pin in place
to the block. Bond the entire assembly in place.
Mount the hinge bracket by wrapping around the
aluminum leading edge of the aileron. Secure the
hinge to the hardwood stringer by pinning in place. Drill
the wood using a pin drill first, DO NOT force the pin
through the wood. The pin should pass easily
though the hole and be bonded in place. Secure the
front edge of the hinge bracket with a nut, bolt, and
washers. Cut an aluminum tube standoff/spacer to
prevent the hinge from over compressing when the bolt is
tightened.
