To check the chain tension:
1. Place the unit in the service position.
2. Remove the bottom cover.
3. Place a straight edge across the chain and observe the chain deflection. The deflection is measured
from the straight edge to the top of the roller link of the chain as shown below.
If the chain deflects more than 5/16” (.3125"):

The chain is loose and the service kit should be installed.
If the deflection is less than 5/16” (.3125"):
•
The chain tension is within specification and the kit is unnecessary.
On these “good” units, remove the E-ring (p/n 05708300) from the transmission output shaft and install two
sleeve bushings (p/n 05500035) between the sprocket and the e-ring. This will limit the maximum float of
the sprocket as the chain wears.
Standard warranty applies. Dealers will be reimbursed 1.75 hours for each 52611700 or 52611900 service
kit installed on an affected model.
On units that only require inspection and two 05500035 Sleeve Bushings installed, dealers will be reim-
bursed .25 hours.
Install two sleeve bushings
