The pot filter has to be set up below the water level, e. g. in a cabinet. The filter pump is not self-
priming. To fill the filter up with water, the filter’s suction side has to be fixed under the water
level. This requires two control valves as well as connecting tubes (13 mm) for suction and
pressure side as an accessory.
The water has to be primed on the tube’s end on the pressure side while the valves are open until
the water runs by itself over the glass edge of the aquarium into the filter according to the principle
of communicating tubes. It is important to pay attention to the correct position of all tubes and
sealings since otherwise the aquarium may drain dry.
The pot filter and all tube connections have to be checked for leaking and proper fit before it is
filled with water as described above. The pot filter automatically runs full of water. Afterwards, the
pump can be started, it must not run dry for a longer time.
The filter may only be operated in an upright position. To clean the filter, the pump has to be
unplugged. Then, the valves (not included) recommended for the tubes have to be closed. The
filter has to be put into a suitable bucket and then the tubes can be pulled of the connecting piece.
Keep the tubes as straight as possible over the bucket to avoid water damage to the cabinet.
Water splashes should be removed with a cloth immediately.
If the recommended valves aren’t closed at the aquarium, there is a risk that the aquarium will be
completely emptied into the cabinet. Therefore, it is also essential to ensure that the lid’s sealing
(Fig. 2, No. 10) is inserted correctly and the lid closes tightly when operating the pot filter. The
retaining brackets of the clamps (Fig. 2, No. 16) have to be put over the grooves of the lid (Fig. 2,
No. 9) and the spring locks have to be pressed firmly to the filter housing.
After cleaning, the tubes have to be reconnected to the closed valves. The filter pot fills itself
automatically after the valves have been opened again provided there is no air is in the supply line
between aquarium and valve. It is very important to ensure that no air is accumulated in the
suction line during operation since air would interrupt the inlet to the filter.
