C. Using your old drive as backup
After transferring the data, you can replace your old drive with the
new drive.
Do not reformat your old drive until you have verifi ed that
your new drive is working properly.
1. Remove your internal hard drive from your computer. If you are
unsure of where this is located or how to do this, contact your
computer manufacturer or computer manual.
2. The drive may be encased in a caddy. A caddy is a tray or
enclosure that holds your hard drive, usually with four screws. Take
the drive out of the caddy. Remove any connectors, take note
of any and all connectors along with their orientation. The hard
drive should look similar to your new hard drive.
3. Attach the new hard drive to the caddy. Reconnect any
connectors.
4. Insert the assembled caddy in the computer.
5. Boot to your new hard drive. The new hard drive should boot to
your operating system as though it was the old drive.
6. Check your fi les on the hard drive using
My Computer
. If everything
has been cloned properly, you can reformat your old hard drive
to use as backup once you have put it into the EZ Upgrade 1.8T
case (directions in Hardware Installation section).
