Beer battered onion rings
3 large white onions
125g plain flour
1 bottle of beer
20g cornflour
Salt and pepper
1.
Preheat the deep fat fryer to 170°C.
2.
Slice the onions into thick rings.
3.
In a mixing bowl whisk together flour, cornflour, salt and pepper and add the
beer slowly, whisking at a fast pace to retain as much air in the batter.
4.
Dip the onion rings into seasoned flour, then into the batter and using metal
tongs, place straight into the deep fat fryer. Ensure the basket is already at
low position in the fryer. Don't overfill the fryer as the onion rings will stick
together.
5.
Cook for 5-8 minutes, until golden and crispy.
6.
Lift the basket and allow the onion rings to drain. Remove from the fryer
with metal tongs placing onto a plate covered in kitchen towel, to absorb
any oil.
