PMB-TCC

Remote Television Control Center

Overview - PHAST Remote Boxes

PHAST Remote Boxes are compact control devices that can be placed any-
where in a home, extending the connectivity of the Landmark system while
eliminating many long runs of control cable to PHAST cardframes. Remote
Boxes communicate with the Landmark system via the PhastLink data bus,
using one of the two RJ-45 ports on the rear panel. The other RJ-45 port
can be used for daisy-chaining additional devices.

The PMB-TCC Remote Television Control Center (FIG. 1) controls TV,
video projector, and media sources via four IR ports. IR commands are
received via a built-in IR sensor on the front of the box or by an optional
external Xantech IR sensor that plugs into a Phoenix connector on the rear
panel. TV or projector power (signal) is sensed via a built-in base-band
video sensor.

The two Contact inputs on the rear of the PMB-TCC can each sense a dry-
contact closure. With the addition of a simple circuit, these can also sense a
voltage change from 0-5VDC or 0-12VDC (this circuit is described in the
Installation and Operation section of this document). The threshold voltage
is approximately 1.5VDC. It is not designed to sense AC voltage.

There is a +12VDC pin on the Contact connector that can be used to power
external contact-type devices such as a motion detector. The supply will
provide power for a total device load of up to 700mA. Check the power
requirements for the device(s) that you want to connect.

LEDs on the front panel indicate power and link status. IR Out and IR In
LEDs illuminate when commands are sent or received. An ID button pro-
vides ID information to the Landmark system that facilitates easy connec-
tion of the physical Remote Contact Box with the correct Remote Contact
Box in software. A 12VDC power supply is included.

Installation

Caution:

Many electronic components are static sensitive. If possible,

install these components in a static-free work environment. Otherwise,
touch a grounded metal object to discharge any static charge before han-
dling these components.

Do not

touch any live electrical conductors.

1.

Check the RJ-45 connector(s) in the J-box for proper function.

2.

Plug the RJ-45 connector(s) into the RJ-45 socket(s) on the rear
panel. It does not matter which RJ-45 socket(s) you use.

3.

If you are using the PMB-TCC to sense the state of an external con-
tact switch or closure-type device, or to sense voltage (up to 12VDC),
connect the leads for those device(s) to the appropriate Contact and
GND pins on a four-pin female Phoenix connector and plug it into the
Contact connector on the rear panel. Up to two switches or devices
may be connected.

IMPORTANT:

The following illustrations (FIG. 2 and FIG. 3) show how

to connect the PMB-TCC to external switches (momentary or continu-
ous) or voltage-sensing applications (+5VDC or +12VDC).

Specifications

Front panel components:

LEDs (front panel)

Power: lights to indicate that the unit is receiving power (from
a properly grounded 120VAC outlet).

Link: Flashes when data is sent from the contact box regard-
ing a change of a relay state, when a command to get the
state of the relays is sent to the box from the Landmark sys-
tem, and when an ID signal is sent to the box from the Land-
mark system.

IR Out: Flashes whenever an IR command is sent.

IR In: Flashes whenever an IR command is received.

IR Sensor

Built-in IR sensor (or optional Xantech external IR sensor)
receives commands from PHAST wireless panels or remote
control.

ID Button

With the Landmark Designer software in Identify mode, press
the ID button on the front panel four times to send device ID
information to the Landmark system. This allows you to make
the correct software connection to this physical device.
