9.  Turn the Hand/Off/Auto switch to Auto mode. When switching between Hand and Auto

modes, be sure to leave the switch in the OFF position for at least two seconds, this will
allow the embedded controller in the winch to initialize properly.

10. The winch is now ready for deployments from the MVP Controller computer in the lab.

3.2  LAB

– UNDERWAY PROFILING

1.  Start the MVP Controller software by double clicking the MVP icon on the desktop.

2.  Verify the MVP  Controller Interface B

ox is turned ON. Confirm the ‘24v Winch’ LED on

the front panel is ON and the ‘Fish TX’ and ‘Winch TX’ LED’s are flashing.

3.

Press the ‘Reset’ button in the Main Operator Window to clear the ‘COMM Err’ indicator
alarm and initialize the software.

4.  Confirm  FISH, WINCH  and  NAV  data  can  be  viewed  in  the  Deployment  Data  panel  in

the  Main  Operator  Window.  If  not,  check  the  settings  in  the  System  Configuration
Window.

5.  Confirm that the filename and path for the data storage on the MVP hard drive is correct.

If not, change the settings in the System Configuration Window.

6.  Verify the Deployment Configuration settings in the Main Operator Window are defined;

these settings will determine the deployment criteria that will be used when the profile is
started.

7.

Press the ‘START’ button for a single profile or toggle the ‘Disabled’ button to ‘Enabled’
to  start  Auto  Deployments.  The  time  between  Auto  Deployments  can  be  specified  by
selecting the number of minutes between profiles in the adjacent text box.

EMERGENCY MANUAL OVERRIDE

In the event of a control system failure, the MVP may not respond to commands from either the
MVP  Controller  in  Auto

mode  or  from  the  remote  pendant  in  Hand  mode.  If  a  failure  should

occur  during  MVP  operations,  the  Emergency  Manual  Override  will  enable  the  fish  to  be
retrieved without control commands from the embedded controller.

The Manual Override switch on the Control Box is used for completely manual operations. The
switch allows the system to be used when the embedded controller circuit board is removed or
inoperable.  Turn  the  switch  to  ON  when  all  other  switches  on  the  control  box  are  OFF  and
operate the winch IN and winch OUT functions on the remote pendant to deploy or recover the
tow fish.

SYSTEM STOWAGE

The system should be covered with a tarp or something similar, when not in use for an extended
period of time. Ensure the tarp is tightly secured to the system to prevent possible tearing due to
severe weather.
