Optional Installations

The RM4210 and RM4211 remote monitoring units (RMUs) can be installed with optional components, such as
an AC/DC power supply or a selectable current transducer (RM4210 only), or installed on an adjustable
mounting base and bracket (refer to

Installing the Adjustable Mounting Bracket

). These optional components are

not necessary for the normal functioning of the units.

Precautions for Connecting Optional Components

In addition to the included batteries, the RM4210 and RM4211 units can be powered by either an AC/DC power
supply (connected to the rectifier) or a solar panel. These optional accessories can be ordered from American
Innovations by contacting Sales (800-229-3404).

If you plan to install a power supply or solar panel, especially at a rectifier or bond, take special

precautions to prevent stray current from affecting the Bullhorn RMU. American Innovations recommends using
a high energy surge arrester if installing the unit on a rectifier. Contact Technical Services at 800-229-3404 or

before beginning the alternate power installation for further details and

instructions.

Before beginning the optional power supply (AC/DC power supply or a solar panel) or selectable current
transducer installation, take note of the following safety precautions and other specifications:

Turn off power to the rectifier before beginning any wiring installation to the RMU.

American Innovations recommends using a high energy surge arrester with the installation of additional
power supplies.

•

Any line-connected, single-pole switch with a marked

OFF

position shall be connected to a

TERMINAL

or

lead intended for connection to the ungrounded conductor of the supply circuit.

•

Overcurrent protective devices shall be connected to the ungrounded supply connector.

•

A switch or circuit-breaker must be included in the installation.

•

The switch must be suitably located and easily reached.

•

The switch must be marked as the disconnecting device for the equipment.
