INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing your American Fibertek MTM-1410 multimode mini video transmitter.
Please take a few minutes to read these installation instructions in order to obtain the maximum
performance from this product.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

The MTM-1410 operates as half of a transmitter / receiver pair for the transmission of baseband
NTSC, PAL, RS170, or RS343 video signals and return RS422 control data for Pelco Spectra III
camera systems. It is designed to operate with the MRM-1410, the RRM-1410, or the RRM-
1420 video receiver over a single multimode fiber optic cable.

The MTM-1410 converts a single video input into a FM modulated optical output using a 1300
nm wavelength source. The MTM-1410 also converts an optical control signal returning on the
same fiber into an electronic camera control signal using an 850 nm wavelength detector. The
MTM-1410 is designed to operate over an optical loss budget range of 0 to 10 dB. The MTM-
1410 operates on 50 um or 62.5 um multimode fiber. Refer to the data sheets for detailed
performance specifications.

The MTM-1410 is designed for mounting as a modular stand alone unit within the Pelco
Spectra III Back Box. For a rack mounted version please see the RTM-1400.

INSTALLATION

THE INSTALLATION OF THIS UNIT SHOULD BE MADE BY A QUALIFIED SERVICE
PERSON(S) AND MUST CONFORM TO ALL LOCAL CODES.

This unit comes with a factory installed non-conductive ST style fiber patchcord. Replacement
of this patchcord with a cable using a metallic ST connector will result in damage to the back
box circuit board and possibly the MTM-1410.

(SEE ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT NOTICE ON

NEXT PAGE)

. Remove sixteen pin jumper from J4/ translator connector on printed circuit board

located in the back box of the Pelco Spectra III dome. Line up the 16 pin connector block of the
MTM-1410 to fit in place of this J4 jumper. Insert pins into socket and tighten the screw on the
MTM-1410 unit into the white post extending from the back box board. Verify that power and
fiber cables move freely after tightening screw. Dress the fiber cable toward the open space
between the black plastic dome enclosure and the outside metal housing directly opposite the
housing fan (see picture next page). GENTLY close the back box card into the top of the back
box housing while observing fiber cable to insure fiber is not bent beyond minimum bend radius
of one inch. While not required, removing the unused coax cable connection from plug J8 along
with any unused terminal blocks in plugs P4 and P5 may assist in a better fit of the printed
circuit board into the back box.

POWER CONNECTION

This unit receives its power from the Spectra III unit. No other external power source is
required. Power is supplied to the unit via the sixteen pin connector interface.

INPUT / OUTPUT CONNECTIONS

The fiber connection is made via a ST coupler at the end of the factory installed patchcord.

The video input and control data output connections are made via the sixteen pin connector on
the back of the unit.
