Preparing the Components
All parts in semi-critical contact with the patient
(see chapter 10) must be cleaned, disinfected and
sterilized before each use. This is also necessary
for the first use after delivery of the non-sterile
components (cleaning and disinfection after
removal from the protective packaging, sterilisa-
tion after packaging). Effective cleaning and disin-
fection are indispensable requirements for
effective sterilisation of components.
For all other components (without patient con-
tact) common surface disinfection can be applied
(not included in these instructions).

Cleaning and Disinfection
5.1
Pretreatment
If a cleaning and disinfection agent is used instead
of water for pretreatment (e.g. to protect person-
nel), it must have the following properties:
_
General suitability for cleaning instruments
made of metal or plastic
_
Compatibility with the components (see
section 8)
_
Tested efficiency (e.g. approval/authorisa-
tion/registration with/from VAH/DGHM or
FDA/EPA or CE marking)
_
Aldehyde-free (otherwise fixation of impurities
with blood)
For pretreatment of components:
▷
If possible: Disassemble components (see
section 10).
▷
Rinse the (disassembled) components under
running water for at least one minute (tempera-
ture < 35°
°C
).
▷
Remove all visible contamination with a clean
and soft brush.
The brush may only be used for this purpose. Do
not clean with a metal brush or steel wool.
▷
Again, rinse the components under running
water for at least one minute.
Coarse contamination of the components
must be removed immediately after use
(within a maximum of two hours).
A disinfectant used during pre-treatment
does not replace disinfection after clean-
ing.
