In the unlikely event that either battery develops a leak it is recommended
that both are replaced. Avoid contact with the corrosive leaking fluid. After
removing and safely disposing of the batteries at a local authorised recycling
centre, neutralise all spills with a dilute alkaline solution (a mixture of
bicarbonate soda and water). Add a protective coating to all corroded metal
surfaces.
For long battery life after every use connect the battery pack to the charger.
The battery charger supplied can be safely left connected to the battery pack
permanently. See battery charger operators manual for further information.
16.0 Maintenance and storage
Regular maintenance is essential for the continued safe operation of the ELMOW
mower. Always fitting genuine Allett parts and routine servicing by authorised Allett
dealers will prolong the working life of the machine and safeguard the warranty.
•
Remove the battery isolation key before carrying out any maintenance work
•
Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure the equipment is in safe
working condition.
•
To reduce the fire hazard, keep the battery and motor enclosure free from
grass leaves or excessive grease.
•
Check the grass catcher frequently for wear or deterioration
•
Replace worn or damaged parts for safety
•
Be careful during adjustment of the machine to prevent entrapment of the
fingers between moving blades and fixed parts of the machine.
16.1 Inspection of critical safety components
The below components are critical to the safe use of the mower. Check they are in
good working order regularly.
•
Operator presence control levers – The cylinder requires two separate
operations to start. Firstly the presence of an operator is confirmed by holding
one of the operator presence levers, secondly the cylinder is activated by the
unlatching and pressing the cutting cylinder controller activation switch into
the ON (1) position. If
ONE
of these operations starts the cylinder seek advice
from your nearest Allett dealer.
•
Battery isolation key and switches – The correct operation of switches and the
battery disabling device are important. Check all wiring and connections are
in good condition. Replace any suspect components. Contact your local Allett
dealer for advice.
•
Throttle control – When no operator is present the control should return to
neutral and the brakes will automatically be applied. If any problem occurs
seek advice from you nearest Allett dealer.
•
Batteries – For safety Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries have been
used. In the unlikely event that these fully sealed batteries leak, use suitable
protective clothing to protect against the corrosive acid. See the battery
section for further information.
