Chapter 6
Configuring the 842 E encoder using RSLogix 5000
Module definition
The user should not have to make changes to the default values. If necessary,
follow the steps below to change series, revision, electronic keying, connection,
and/or input data.
1.
On the
General
tab, click the
Change
button. The module definition
window opens.
2.
Click the arrows at the right of each box to access drop-down menus.
•
The connection drop-down menu allows you to select either a
Data
or
Listen Only
connection (see definitions, below).
•
The Input data drop-down menu allows you to select position, position-
status, or position-velocity (see “RSLogix 5000 controller tags” on page 47
for more information).
3.
Click
OK
to accept the changes (or
Cancel
to retain the original settings).

Data:
This type of connection is used to read data from the encoder without
controlling the outputs. This connection is not dependent on any other
connection.
Listen Only:
This type of connection is dependent on another connection to
exist. If that connection is closed, the listen-only connection will be closed as
well.
