5. GLOSSARY
AES/EBU
This acronym covers the combined AES and EBU standard for transmission of digital
audio. The standard defines a serial interface known as AES3 as per AES, EBU 3250-E as
per EBU or ITU-R BS.647-2 as per ITU. The interface originally transmitted two channels
(one pair) with PCM coding with a bit depth of 20 or 24 bit and a sampling frequency
between 32kHz and 192kHz. Today the interface is also used as a framework to
transmit digital signals that may or may not be audio with linear PCM encoding. The
physical interface defined by the original AES/EBU standard was a 110 ohm balanced
line. The AES3-id standard later defined the physical interface as a 75 ohm coaxial cable.
ASRC
Asynchronous Sample Rate Converter
AUDIOFLEX
AUDIOFLEX
SDI
Serial Digital Interface. A standard used for the transmission of uncompressed video
signals that can also include audio and time code signals.
dB
Logarithmic measurement to express ratios of power.
dBu
Logarithmic measurement referring to 0.7746V which is the voltage that dissipates
1mW (0dBm) of power when applied to a 600 ohm resistor.
