3. Antenna Placement and Transmitter Installation
Guidelines
• Use the signal strength meter (five horizontal LEDs) to determine
quality of reception
• Strive for the maximum possible signal strength-5 BARS, and
• Never settle for less than three steady bars of signal strength.
Procedures
Activate the Radio
1. Connect the battery.
2. Radio will initiate start-up procedure (2-5 minutes).
3. When completed:
• Red LED will be OFF, indicating positive
MicroBurst availability.
• IF red LED stays on, go to Appendix II Troubleshooting.
• Amber LED will blink steadily, either once or twice per second, depend-
ing on carrier selected.
• Green LED on solid.
Select Mounting Location
1. Hold radio against wall for 10 seconds at desired
mounting location.
2. Check to be sure that this location provides at least three steady bars
on the signal strength meter.
3. If signal strength is inadequate, move radio and hold for another 10
seconds.
4. Use 7825-OC outdoor antenna if specified or necessary.
5. Even if original location provides three bars of signal strength, test
several other locations for better signal strength.
6. Refer to Appendix I for tips on finding best locations.
7. STRIVE FOR FIVE bars of signal strength.
8. Conduct click test using tamper switch to confirm clear RF path to the
network.
9. Mark location with best signal strength for
later mounting.
Program the Radio
1. Power down the unit.
2. Identify operating mode to be used according to control panel type
(refer to Section 2).
3. Power up unit.
4. Use tamper switch to select operating mode.
5. Program radio using PRO registration method or
7720P if necessary.
NOTE: Refer to appropriate subsection in Section 4 for details.
