Cotton Flow
Sensor Overview
1. Remove the specified chute or chute extension from the picker. This will make
it easier to work on each chute.
2. Positioning of the sensors depends on if you are attaching to the chute
extensions, main chute or on the ladder ducts. Ensure you are following the
instructions for the type of chute you are mounting. Follow the positioning
instructions closely to ensure accurate mounting of the sensors to maximize
accuracy.
3. Each duct requires an Emitter and Detector pair to sense the cotton flow as the
cotton is blown to the basket. Each Emitter has five individual infrared light
emitters within each housing to cover the width of the duct. Likewise, each
detector has five individual sensors within each housing to match up across the
duct to sense the light from the emitters.
4. Therefore, it is critical to measure accurately and follow the diagrams closely.
5. Once the sensors are installed make sure the telescoping lower chute does not
block the sensors when head is raised. If this happens, remove no more than 3
inches off the top of the lower telescoping chute.
Installing Sensors
on Chute
Extensions and
Main Chute
NOTE: For 1822/1844 models, mount the sensors on the chute extensions.
If your machine does not have chute extensions, mount the sensors on the
main chute. See Figure 11 for the location of main chutes. See Figure 12
for the location of the chute extension. (The chute extension on a 1822/1844
are similar to the 2022-2044.)
NOTE: For 2022/2044 models, mount the sensors on the chute extensions
ONLY. AG Leader does not currently offer the hardware to mount to the
main chute of this model. See Figure 12 for the location of chute extension.
IMPORTANT: Ensure the sensors are mounted on the front and back
of the chutes and NOT the sides.
IMPORTANT: Always mount the bracket on the side that the emitter
(sensor with cord) will be mounted to first. This ensures the alignment
of the emitter to the detector to achieve proper alignment.
