Introduction
Based on IEC 61850-3, a standard for the design of electrical substation automation,
which defines communication between all Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED) and
other related equipment from the process level (data acquisition, sensors and actua-
tors) to the bay level (protection, monitoring and control tasks) and up to the station
level (HMI/SCADA). Advantech’s ECU-4784 Series can operate as a smart substa
-
tion station level communication server, a HMI/SCADA workstation, a remote control
station, a cyber security server, and an environment status monitoring station. Sys
-
tem integrators can thereby design an optimized digital substation while allowing
energy operators to deliver electricity which is more secure, reliable, economical, and
efficient.
Advantech’s ECU-4784 Series are certified by IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 to meet
the harsh and critical requirements in smart grid automation. It provides high perfor

High-performance Computing Platforms for Power and Energy Automation
Applications
High computing performance processors to meet the most critical computing
applications by VT-D, which can run multiple software application. Energy oper

ators can leverage virtual machine (VM) resources on the ECU-4784 to reduce
project deployment cost.
Highly integrated all in one server platform to enhance smart substation station
level project deployment efficiency by integrating HMI visualization, monitoring,
and control with data concentrator and protocol converter to finish all the station
level tasks. These functions would be implemented by the different data collec

tion gateways and SCADA workstation.

harsh applications.
