Chapter 3 Connecting the System
3.1 ARK-4170 introduction
The ARK-4170 Ruggized Box Computer consists of a PC-based com-
puter that is housed in an aluminum top cover, a metal bottom case with
accessible bottom cover and Front/ Rear metal face plates. Your OS and
SDRAM, are all readily accessible in the system. Any maintenance or
hardware upgrades, such as stackable PC/104 modules, CF or HDD stor-
age etc, all need to be assembled at Advantech, because of ARK-4170’s
special anti-vibration and shock resistance features. In addition, proper
assembly is important to make sure that heat will be removed correctly.
We strongly suggest you do not remove any mechanical parts, if mechan-
ical parts need to be removed, please contact our support team.
3.2 How to connect the system
Warning! Do not remove any mechanical parts, such as
the top cover, bottom cover and front/rear face
plate until you have verified that no power is
flowing within the Embedded Box Computer.
Power must be switched off and the power cord
must be unplugged. Every time you service the
Embedded Box Computer, you should be aware
of this.
Warning! Do not operate ARK-4170 without following the
below process carefully!
