GENERAL

This practice provides installation and maintenance
procedures for the ADTRAN BR1/10 Power Alarm Unit
(PAU).  Figure 1 is an illustration of the BR1/10 PAU.

Features
The BR1/10 PAU, part number 1150078L2, includes
the following features:

-48 VDC input converted to regulated -48 and
+5 VDC for the channel bank.

Faceplate mounted 1-amp GMT-type fuse for
input -48 VDC.

Provides alarm relay contact closure in the
event the 1-amp faceplate mounted fuse is
blown.

Alarm Cut-Off (ACO) switch for silencing an
audible alarm.

Bank Alarm LED for visual notification of a
bank alarm condition.

General Description
The BR1/10 PAU is a common module plug-in unit
specifically designed for use in the ADTRAN BR1/10.
The unit filters and converts -48 VDC input to regulated
-48 and +5 VDC voltage levels for use by other common
equipment and channel units.  The faceplate contains
a cricket-style, 1-amp GMT-type fuse holder, a
momentary action ACO push button, and a Bank Alarm

LED.  The 1150.078L2 is identical to the 1150.078L1,
except the L2 provides contact closure on a fuse
tripped condition.

Fault and Alarms
The -48 VDC input to the PAU is fused with a 1-amp
fuse which provides protection and isolation during a
fault condition.  When the fuse is tripped, the PAU
outputs -48 VDC as -48 ALM to the backplane of the
BR1/10 chassis and provides alarm relay contact
closure on terminal strip JP15.  In this condition, MJ is
shorted to MJR and MJV is shorted to MJVR.  The ACO
push-button does not override in this condition.

The BANK ALARM LED is

ON when the BR1/10 is in

bank alarm (Red, Yellow, or Blue).  During an alarm
condition, and when the ACO push-button has been
activated, the Bank Alarm LED will

Flash to indicate an

Alarm Cutoff condition.  If no bank alarms are present,
the LED is

OFF during normal operation.

During an alarm condition (Red, Yellow or Blue), use
the ACO push-button to reset the Major and Major
Return (MJ/MJR)  relay  contacts to an open state.  This
overrides an audible alarm or any alarm connected to
the contact during the remainder of the bank alarm
condition.  This switch is operable only when an bank
alarm condition is present.
