6.1 Watchdog Timer
This section describes the operation of the VPX3000’s watchdog
timer (WDT). The primary function of the WDT is to monitor the
VPX3000's operation and to reset the system if a software applica-
tion fails to function as programmed. The following WDT functions
may be controlled using a software application:
X
enabling and disabling
X
set and get current configuration
X
reloading timeout value
The VPX3000 custom WDT circuit is implemented using the IPMC
and operated by IPMI commands.
Watchdog Timer IPMI Commands
The following section describes the IPMI commands for controlling
watchdog timer (WDT) functions. For more details about IPMI
commands, please refer to the IPMI specification: “
Intelligent Plat-
form Management Interface Specification Second Generation
v2.0”
.
WDT Command Table
The WDT IPMI commands allow the user to set the countdown
period and reload the timeout value periodically to keep it from
resetting the system. If the timer countdown value is not reloaded,
the watchdog resets the system hardware after its counter
reaches zero.
