ONNECTIONS
The diagram below includes the back panel of the Control Suite, a single rack space ADA
component that is really five devices in one.
1 A wire harness featuring five ADA Bus (4-pin screw terminal connectors - for other ADA
Bus components) and eight Cat-Link (RJ-45 female connectors - for keypads).
2 An IRL-5000 eight source IR learner/controller used to control IR activated devices.
3 Isolated RS-232 control port used for PC setup and system integration. Note that the
Suite 8100 will not need to be ordered with an on-board RS-232 port when used in con-
junction with the Control Suite.\
4 System Clock as it contains an internal CMB-1 Clock Module which permits the keypads
to display calendar date and time when a room is off. This devices also makes active the
keypad’s alarm clock feature.
5 Baud Rate Translation as it contains an internal BRT-1 Baud Rate Translator. The Suite
8100’s standard operational baud rate is 19,200 baud. If IR control of the Suite 8100 or
its tuner is required, the IR commands will need to be issued at 1200 baud. This circuit
senses 1200 baud ADA commands on the system bus and up-converts them to 19,200
baud so that the function commands are executed.

When connecting the Suite 8100 to the Control Suite, ADA suggests using the prefabricated
ADA Bus connector included with your system. It should be plugged into the Suite 8100 and
the far left ADA Bus port on the Control Suite (when looking at the back of the Control Suite).
The additional ADA Bus ports can be used to connect additional ADA tuners, the iHome Multi-
Center, the iBase iPod docking station, or other ADA Bus devices or components.
ADA keypads connect to the eight RJ-45 female jacks in no specific order (zone number). IR
emitters used to control sources usually connect in numeric order as indicated on the 1/4 inch
mini-jack ports. A PC or other control system can be connected to the RS-232 port.
