Instructions for use
The Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device is an easy-to-
use lancing device that has been developed to allow
virtually pain-free collection of capillary blood from a
fingertip. There are 11 penetration depth settings so
users can choose the one most suitable for their own
skin type. The lancing device features a drum contai-
ning six lancets. You can fingerprick six times, using
a new sterile lancet each time, before the drum
needs changing.
These instructions contain two types of warning:

The Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device is inten-
ded for patient self-monitoring by a single per-
son. It must not be used on more than one per-
son due to the risk of infection.
Use the Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device only
together with Accu-Chek Multiclix lancet drums.
Using other lancets or lancet drums may impair
operation of the lancing device or damage it
permanently.
Inserting the lancet drum
To use the lancing device to obtain blood, you must
first insert a lancet drum or replace a used drum with
a new one.
You can tell that a lancet drum is new by the fact that
the blue ring cannot be moved over the white cylinder.
When a drum has been used, the blue ring can be
rotated over the cylinder and two red stripes are
visible.
A used lancet drum has an in-built safety feature
that stops you from inserting it again. This rules
out a potential infection risk.
1. Remove the cap from the lancing device.
Hold the cap as illustrated, then simply pull it
off.
2. Insert a new lancet drum – blue ring first – into
the lancing device.
The drum is properly inserted when it slots into
position with an audible CLICK.
3. Press the cap on again.
Be sure to align the cut-away section of the cap
with the raised contour on the front end of the
lancing device.
Each drum contains six lancets. The first lancet is now
ready to be used.
The scale on the plunger
shows five white bars, signi-
fying that there are still five
lancets in reserve.
Obtaining blood
The best place for obtaining capillary blood is from a
finger. We recommend using the side of a fingertip, as
this registers least pain.
To avoid infection, use a new lancet each time
you take blood. Using each lancet only once
helps ensure virtually pain-free blood sampling.
You can choose the penetration depth from a possible
eleven settings. The larger the number, the greater
the penetration depth. The white marker in front of
the release button indicates the current depth
setting.
4. Twist the dial until you reach your chosen
setting.
We recommend a low setting (e.g. 2) if you are
using the Accu-Chek Multiclix lancing device for
the first time.
You must prime the lancing device before you can
trigger the lancet.
Do not prime the lancing device until you are
ready to take blood.
5. Press the plunger in
as far as it will go.
The lancing device is primed when a yellow dot
appears in the transparent release button.
Be careful not to press the release button when
priming the device.
Doing so would trigger the lancet immediately
and could cause accidental injury.
6. Wash hands with warm water and soap, and dry
well. This helps ensure proper hygiene and
stimulates blood flow.
7. Gently press the front end of the lancing device
against the site you have chosen.
You will feel the slightly raised ring on the bottom
of the cap pressing against your skin. This is the
pin-hole through which the tip of the lancet
emerges.
8. Press the release button.
This triggers the lancet, which penetrates the
skin.
Only use the lancing device
when the cap is
attached.
If the cap is not attached, the lancet penetrates
too deep and causes unnecessary discomfort.
9. Gently massage your finger towards the fingertip
to encourage a drop of blood to form.
The amount of blood that emerges at the penetration
site depends on the penetration setting and the
pressure used to hold the lancing device against the
skin.
If the amount of blood you obtain is too small, try
again, applying more pressure this time. If you still
obtain insufficient blood, repeat the procedure with
progressively deeper settings.
If too much blood emerges, reduce the penetration
depth.
10. Measure blood glucose according to the
instructions that came with your blood glucose
meter.
11. After you have applied blood to the test strip,
wipe the puncture site with a dry, clean paper
towel and keep it clean.
Loading the next lancet
Prepare a new lancet for use as follows:
12. Twist the plunger one quarter-turn as far as it will
go (1), and back (2).
This twisting action turns the lancet drum and the
second lancet is now ready to be used.
The scale on the plunger shows four white bars,
signifying that there are now four lancets left.
Only twist the plunger when you can see at least
one white bar on the scale showing the number
of lancets left.
An in-built safety feature stops you twisting the
plunger when the scale shows there are no
lancets left.
This prevents an infection risk, as used lancets
cannot be re-used.
Only twist the plunger when the lancing device is
not
primed.
When the lancing device is primed, the drum
cannot rotate and twisting the plunger would
damage the device.
The lancet drum cannot be rotated backwards.
An in-built safety feature prevents this. This pre-
vents an infection risk, as used lancets cannot be
re-used.
13. Proceed as above to change each lancet in turn.
Each time a new lancet is loaded, the number of
white bars visible on the scale decreases by
one.
When no more white bars are visible on the scale, you
have used five lancets. The sixth and last lancet is
loaded and ready to be used.
Changing the lancet drum
When you have used the sixth and last lancet, you
need to replace the used lancet drum with a new
one.
14. Remove the cap from the lancing device.
15. Hold the lancet drum between thumb and index
finger and pull it out of the lancing device.
As you pull it out, the blue ring separates from the
white cylinder and rotates freely. Two red stripes are
visible on the cylinder.
If a lancet drum containing
used
lancets is
dropped on a hard surface (either on its own or in
the lancing device), lancets may in rare cases
protrude from the front of the drum. These lan-
cets could cause injury. Therefore take great
care not to touch the front of the drum.
16. Insert a new lancet drum (see
Inserting the
lancet drum
).
A lancet drum that has been removed from the
lancing device has an in-built safety feature that
prevents it being re-inserted. This rules out a
potential infection risk.
Used lancet drums can be discarded with regular
household waste.
Keeping the lancing device in a safe place
Never keep the lancing device in a primed state nor
expose it to extreme temperatures (e.g. in a hot car).
This can cause parts of the lancing device to become
deformed, so impairing its operation.
Cleaning the lancing device
To keep the lancing device in tip-top condition, clean it
regularly and wipe off any blood from it immediately.
Clean the lancing device from the outside only. Follow
a weekly cleaning regime using a cloth moistened
with 70 % ethanol or 70 % isopropanol (available at
your pharmacy/chemist).
In addition, thoroughly wipe the inside of the cap using
a cotton bud moistened with 70 % ethanol or 70 %
isopropanol.
Allow the lancing device time to dry thoroughly.
Never dip the lancing device in the cleaning
liquid.
This may damage internal parts, so impairing
operation of the lancing device.
Use only 70 % ethanol or 70 % isopropanol to
clean the lancing device. Other substances used
for cleaning may attack the plastic and stop the
lancing device from operating properly.
Guarantee
The statutory provisions on rights in consumer goods
sales in the country of purchase shall apply.
What the symbols mean
Various symbols are printed on the lancing device
and the pack it came in. Their meanings are as
follows:

Instrucciones de uso
El dispositivo de punción Accu-Chek Multiclix fue
desarrollado para la obtención sencilla y prácticamen-
te indolora de sangre capilar de la yema del dedo. Es
posible ajustar la profundidad de punción en 11
graduaciones, adaptándola así a los diferentes tipos
de piel. El dispositivo de punción utiliza un cartucho
con seis lancetas. Así, puede obtener sangre seis
veces, utilizando una nueva lanceta esterilizada cada
vez, antes de que el cartucho requiera ser
reemplazado. A continuación, debe reemplazar el
cartucho de lancetas completo por uno nuevo.
En estas instrucciones de uso encontrará dos tipos
de advertencias:

El dispositivo de punción Accu-Chek Multiclix
está previsto para el autocontrol de un paciente
individual. Este no debe ser utilizado para la ob-
tención de sangre en más de una persona pues-
to que existe el riesgo de infección.
Utilice el dispositivo de punción Accu-Chek
Multiclix exclusivamente con cartuchos de
lancetas Accu-Chek Multiclix. La utilización de
otras lancetas u otros cartuchos de lancetas
puede perjudicar el funcionamiento del disposi-
tivo de punción o incluso destruirlo.
Inserción del cartucho de lancetas
Para poder obtener sangre con el dispositivo de
punción tiene que introducir un cartucho de lancetas o
reemplazar el cartucho de lancetas usado por uno
nuevo.
Puede reconocer un cartucho de lancetas nuevo por el
hecho de que no es posible mover el anillo azul sobre
el cilindro blanco. En un cartucho de lancetas usado
se puede girar el anillo azul sobre el cilindro y se ven
dos rayas rojas.
Un cartucho de lancetas usado tiene un disposi-
tivo de seguridad que evita que pueda ser
insertado de nuevo. Así se evita un riesgo de
infección.
1. Retire el capuchón del dispositivo de punción
sujetando el capuchón de la manera mostrada
en la ilustración. Así será más fácil retirarlo.
2. Introduzca un nuevo cartucho de lancetas en el
dispositivo de punción, con el anillo azul hacia
delante.
El cartucho de lancetas está insertado correctamente
cuando ha encajado con un CLIC perceptible.
3. Vuelva a colocar el capuchón poniendo atención
a que la ranura del capuchón y el arco en la parte
anterior del dispositivo de punción se enlacen.
Cada cartucho de lancetas contiene seis lancetas. La
primera lanceta está lista para el uso.
En el indicador de lancetas de
reserva se ven cinco barras
blancas, es decir que le que-
dan cinco lancetas de reserva.
Obtención de gotas de sangre
El mejor lugar para la obtención de sangre capilar es
la yema del dedo. Recomendamos recoger la sangre
capilar de los lados de las yemas de los dedos, puesto
que son las zonas menos sensibles al dolor.
Utilice una lanceta nueva para cada recolección
de sangre. Así evita el riesgo de infección, y la
recolección de sangre es indolora.
Puede ajustar la profundidad de punción en 11
graduaciones. Cuanto mayor la cifra, tanto mayor la
profundidad de punción. La raya blanca que se
encuentra delante del botón disparador indica la
profundidad de punción.
4. Gire el anillo de ajuste hasta la profundidad de
punción deseada.
Recomendamos ajustar una profundidad de
punción baja, p.ej. la graduación 2, al utilizar el
dispositivo de punción por primera vez.
Para que la lanceta pueda pinchar, tiene que tensar el
dispositivo de punción.
Arme el dispositivo de punción solamente en el
momento de utilizarlo.
5. Apriete el botón tensor
hasta el tope
.
El dispositivo de punción está tensado cuando la
mitad del botón disparador está amarilla.
Al tensar, no debe apretar simultáneamente el botón
disparador, porque se dispararía inmediatamente
la lanceta y podría herirlo accidentalmente.
6. Lávese las manos con agua caliente y jabón y
séquelas bien. Así se estimula la circulación y
garantiza la correcta higiene de la zona.
7. Presione el dispositivo de punción sobre el sitio
de punción deseado.
Sentirá la abertura de salida de la lanceta en la
ligera prominencia del capuchón.
8. Presione el botón disparador.
La lanceta se dispara y penetra en la piel.
Utilice el dispositivo de punción
exclusivamente
con el capuchón puesto.
Sin capuchón, la lanceta penetra demasiado
profundo y la punción es más dolorosa de lo
necesario.
9. Estimule la formación de la gota de sangre
aplicando un suave masaje en dirección de la
yema del dedo.
La cantidad de sangre emergente depende de la
profundidad de la punción y de la presión que ejerce el
dispositivo de punción sobre la piel.
De no emerger sangre suficiente, debe ejercer mayor
presión con el dispositivo de punción. Si tampoco esto
es suficiente, aumente paso a paso la profundidad de
punción.
Si sale demasiada sangre, disminuya la profundidad
de punción.
10. Efectúe la medición de la glucemia de acuerdo
con las instrucciones de uso de su medidor de
glucemia.
11. Después de haber aplicado la sangre en una tira
reactiva, limpie el sitio de punción con un paño
de papel limpio y seco. A continuación, recomen-
damos proteger el sitio de punción contra
impurezas.
Preparativos para la utilización de una lanceta
nueva
Para preparar una nueva lanceta para su uso siga los
siguientes pasos:
12. Haga avanzar el botón tensor de un cuarto de giro
hasta el tope (1), y retroceder a continuación (2).
Al hacerlo el cartucho de lancetas gira y la segunda
lanceta queda lista para su uso.
En el indicador de lancetas de reserva se ven cuatro
barras blancas, es decir que le quedan cuatro lancetas
de reserva.
Solamente debe girar el botón tensor si en el
indicador de lancetas de reserva ve por lo menos
una barra blanca.
Un dispositivo de seguridad impide que pueda
girar el botón tensor si el indicador de lancetas
de reserva está vacío.
De este modo se evita todo riesgo de infección,
puesto que no se pueden volver a utilizar
lancetas usadas.
Solamente debe girar el botón tensor con el
dispositivo de punción
sin
tensar. Estando
tensado, el cartucho de lancetas no puede girar
y deteriora el dispositivo de punción.
No es posible hacer girar el cartucho de lancetas
hacia atrás, porque un bloqueo lo impide. De
este modo se evita todo riesgo de infección,
puesto que no se pueden volver a utilizar
lancetas usadas.
13. Proceda del modo arriba descrito en todos los
cambios de lanceta.
Después de cada cambio de lanceta, en el
indicador de lancetas de reserva se ve una barra
blanca menos.
Cuando el indicador de lancetas de reserva esté vacío,
habrá utilizado cinco lancetas, y la sexta (y última)
lanceta está lista para el uso.
Reemplazo del cartucho de lancetas
Cuando haya consumido la sexta y última lanceta, tiene
que reemplazar el cartucho de lancetas por otro nuevo.
14. Retire el capuchón del dispositivo de punción.
15. Mantenga el cartucho de lancetas entre el pulgar
y el índice y extráigalo del dispositivo de punción.
Al extraerlo, en el cartucho de lancetas se suelta el
anillo azul del cilindro blanco, con lo cual puede girar
libremente. En el cilindro se ven dos rayas rojas.
En caso de que un cartucho de lancetas conte-
niendo lancetas
usadas
caiga sobre una super-
ficie dura (sea el cartucho de lancetas sólo o in-
sertado en el dispositivo de punción), en casos
aislados puede ser que después sobresalgan
lancetas de la parte frontal del cartucho. Por esta
razón no debe tocar este extremo del cartucho,
puesto que podría herirse con estas lancetas.
16. Introduzca un cartucho nuevo (vea
Introducir un
cartucho de lancetas
).
Un cartucho extraído del dispositivo de punción
está bloqueado y no se puede introducir de
nuevo. De este modo se evita todo riesgo de
infección.
Puede desechar los cartuchos de lancetas usados con
las basuras domésticas.
Conservación del dispositivo de punción
No conserve el dispositivo de punción tensado o a
temperaturas elevadas, p.ej. en el coche con exceso
de calor. De lo contrario piezas del dispositivo de
punción podrían deformarse y perjudicar así el
funcionamiento.
Limpieza del dispositivo de punción
Para mantener el dispositivo de punción en óptimas
condiciones, límpielo con regularidad y siempre
que lleve sangre adherida. El dispositivo de punción
solamente debe ser limpiado por la parte externa.
Limpie el dispositivo de punción una vez por semana
con un paño previamente humedecido con etanol al
70 % o isopropanol al 70 % (de venta en farmacias).
Limpie además el interior del capuchón con un bas-
toncillo de algodón humedecido igualmente con eta-
nol al 70 % o isopropanol al 70 %.
A continuación, deje que el dispositivo de punción se
seque a fondo.
No sumerja el dispositivo de punción en el
líquido limpiador. Las piezas internas podrían
dañarse, perjudicándose así el funcionamiento.
Utilice exclusivamente etanol al 70 % o isopro-
panol al 70 % como medio de limpieza. Otras
sustancias pueden dañar el material del disposi-
tivo de punción, perjudicándose así el funciona-
miento.
Garantía
Deberán prevalecer las disposiciones legales relativas
a garantías que rigen la venta de bienes de consumo
en el país de compra.
