Rooms with lots of vapour and steam, e.g. swimming pools and washing areas. Condensation can
form both on, and inside, the detector.
Areas in which there are a lot of insects, e.g. attic space or greenhouses
Places with a high level of dust or dirt.
Areas where the air can be contaminated with solvent, e.g due to thinner, petrol or turpentine.
External areas. Smoke and foreign bodies can carry over great distances.

The following images illustrate good and bad positions for smoke alarm devices. Fig. 7 shows an
apartment. Figs. 8 and 9 show a small two storey house.
