In the ready-to-use state, the cutting torch consists of:
1. Cutting torch body with handle tube e. g.:
PSB 121
with equipment and
consumables
2. Handle
3. Cable assembly
All elements together form an operating unit which provides a plasma arc for
cutting when supplied with the appropriate operating resources.
When cutting, compressed air is ionized in the cutting nozzle. The initial arc
produces a conductive plasma which is accelerated in the nozzle and directed
to the part. The working arc is struck between the cutting torch electrode and
part. The part material is melted by the energy of impact, dissociation and
ionization and blown out by the kinetic energy of the plasma jet. The compres-
sed air is used to cool the hose assembly and cutting torch.
Manual cutting torch
The torch head is arranged at an angle of 100° (PSB 31) or 105° (PSB
60/121) to the axis of the handle.
The wearing parts plasma nozzle, protective cap, electrode and insulator can
be replaced by insertion or screwing. To protect the user, the torch is fitted
with a fuse terminal which automatically interrupts the switch-on circuit if the
wearing parts become loose.
Accessories such as torch roller guide, torch circular guide and spacer can be
inserted and locked into place on the outer contour of the protective caps.
