Operation

For information on the allowed consecutive or annual starts, please see the performance data
sheet or consult the manufacturer. The load characteristics of the application are needed for
determining the starting frequency. As a guideline, the maximum number of starts in a typical
application is 1000 starts per year.
A counter system for controlling the number of starts should be used and maintenance intervals
should be determined based on equivalent operating hours, see
NOTE: The safety precautions shown in the
at the beginning of the manual
must be observed at all times.
6.4 Supervision
The operating personnel should inspect the machine at regular intervals. This means that they
should listen, feel and smell the machine and its associated equipment in order to obtain a
feeling for normal operating condition.
The object of the supervision inspection is to familiarize the personnel with the equipment. This
is essential in order to detect and fix abnormal occurrences in time.
The difference between supervision and maintenance is rather diffuse. Normal supervision of
operation includes logging of operating data such as load, temperatures and vibrations. This
data is useful basis for maintenance and service.
•
During the first period of operation (- 200 hours) supervision should be intensive.
Temperatures of bearings and windings, load, current, cooling, lubrication and vibration
shall be checked frequently
•
During the following duty period (200 - 1000 hours), a check-up once a day is sufficient. A
record of supervision inspections should be filed and saved for further reference. The time
between inspections may be extended if the operation is continuous and stable.
For relevant check-lists, see
.
6.4.1 Bearings
The bearing temperatures and lubrication should be monitored closely, see
6.4.2 Vibrations
The vibration levels of the driving-driven machine system should be monitored, see
6.4.3 Temperatures
The temperatures of the bearings, stator windings and cooling air should be checked when the
machine is running, see
