3.0 Protector Specifications
3.1
To maintain UL Listing, only five pin arrestor devices that are UL Recognized or Listed may be used in
the terminals.
4.0 Tool Requirements
4.1

5.0 Terminal Placement
Note:
Protected Entrance Terminals are to be installed in accordance with Article 800, Section C of the
National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70).
5.1
Locate the terminal according to standard company practice, and,
a) Locate the terminal:
•
where it will be mounted to a firm surface
•
is accessible to technicians at all times
•
can be reached without a ladder
•
will not project in a hazardous manner
Note:
Avoid locations near flammable materials, ignitable gases, dust, excessive moisture, temperature
extremes, moving machinery, electric light and power circuits, and electrical equipment.
b) Observe caution when exposing the terminal and components to chemicals in liquid or vapor form, as
they may damage the plastic components.
Note:
If a 4990-SK, 4788-SKW, 4990-WB, or 4788-WBW is to be installed, these items should be installed
first and then proceed to section 6.0.
5.2
Open the terminal door using a 7/16" terminal wrench. Remove the door by lifting upward. Stow the
door in a safe place until installation is completed.
5.3
Remove the parts bag. Locate the hanger bracket. Open the bag and remove two of the #12 screws for
attaching the wall hanger bracket. Remove four of the #12 screws if installing the 300 pair terminal.
5.4
Place the hanger bracket in the desired location and mark
holes for screws. Make sure the bracket is level.
5.5
Attach the bracket to the mounting surface with the #12
screws provided or other appropriate fasteners.
5.6
Locate the overhanging lip on the top rear of the
terminal and position it over the hanger bracket. Lower
the terminal into place. Make sure the terminal is seated
correctly on the bracket.
5.7
Loosen the two screws on the hinged inner panel.
These are captive screws, DO NOT REMOVE THEM.
Open the inner panel and secure in the open position with

88T Vinyl Tape. Install two #12 mounting screws,
or other appropriate fasteners, through the two lower slots
on the rear wall of the terminal. Fasten the terminal to
the mounting surface.
