6.0 Cable Preparation, Pre-Termination, Plugging and Splicing
6.1
Field/Distribution Cables
a. Separate the field/distribution cable into 100 pair groups and tie wrap these groups across the top tie
down bar on the back of the cabinet. For any cables over 2000 pairs, the excess groups are tied to the
upper cabinet tie bar and brought over to the cabinets right hand side frames for termination.
b. Using 4005 CBM Modules
1. Waterfall the groups and tie wrap them to the bottom bar. Pre-terminate the groups using 4005
CBM Modules 55 inches from the lower tie down to the module with a right hand entry, white/blue
pair long.
2. Install the SS-5-CBM Panels into the Swing Out Frame. With the frame open, start at the bottom
and tie wrap and plug the CBMs of the field cable and block together. Store modules behind the
blocks.
3. Continue tying and plugging until the frame is complete. Make sure the frames will close.
4. Repeat on the other panels and frame.
c. Using 710 SC Connectors
1. Waterfall the groups and measure to the bottom bar, but do not tie wrap to the bar. Measure 65”
from the bottom bar to the end of the cable. The connector will need 10 inches for splicing.
2. Install the SS-5-T Panels into the Swing Out frames. With the frame open, start at the bottom and
splice the field cable to the 710 SC Connectors of the blocks. Tie wrap the group to the frame and
store the connectors behind the blocks.
3. Continue splicing, tying and storing until the frame is complete. Make sure the frames will close.
4. Repeat on the other panels and frame.

information on appropriate material safety data sheets.
6.2
Derived Cables (equipment cables)
These are the 100 pair cables in the center of the cabinet that are pre-terminated to the equipment in the
CUE and into the cabinet at the factory. These feeder pairs are assigned binding post positions by the
local engineer.
a. Lower the Drop-down Frame 90 degrees to the cabinet, resting it on a splicer’s box.
b. Tie wrap the Derived Pair Cables to the bottom of the frame in the assigned positions. Plug together
the assigned modules or splice the connectors. Store them behind the blocks.
c. Raise and secure the frame making sure there are no pinched conductors.
d. Bridge the Miscellaneous QCP Maintenance Line to the cabinet’s talk block on the left hand side.
7.0 Binder Post Identification
In the 4220CUE-6000, the Derived Pairs Drop-Down Frame will be marked in the factory with 1 to 2000
green labels on the block’s identification tabs.
7.1
Mark the Swing Out Frames using the blue labels included with the cabinet. The left hand swing out
frame should be binding posts 1 to 2000 (blue labels) and the right hand swing out frame should be
binding posts 2001 to 4000 (blue labels).
